Record breaking tournament in the books!
This past week, the largest ever 12th Annual Montauk Canyon Challenge was held. The tournament is run out of Gurney’s Star Island Resort & Marina in Montauk, NY (a place Maggie loved), and is now in its 12th year. Started by David O’Halloran who sadly passed away in May of 2017, just a week before Maggie, the event has become the Northeast’s Premier Tuna Tournament.
Richie Lucas, of Staten Island Yachts and Viking Brand Manager, Chris Squeri, of Atlantic Yacht Haven, and Travelers Yacht Haven, were the co-directors and event organizers who put on a record tournament with more boats registered than in years past, including a record amount of prize money given out. Through their dedication and incredible efforts, it attract anglers from all over and continues to be one of the Northeast’s most popular offshore fishing tournaments.
The tournament, which has continued to support Maggie’s Mission has raised over $35,000 this year! That’s what we call Fishin’ for the Mission and Fishing for Cures!
Our foundation feels so fortunate to be the recipient of such generosity. We are proud to be blessed in this way. With the support, the money will go a long way in relieving suffering and offering hope to children and their families affected by pediatric cancers.
